I’m A Liberal Expat Supporting Nikki Haley
Nikki Haley needs to be the winner in the upcoming GOP primaries — Here’s why.
In late 2007, I predicted that Barack Obama was the guy to defeat Hillary Clinton in the primaries, and ultimately take the White House. Because of this belief, I joined his campaign (and actually got to see him in person).
I was right, he was the guy. Many people asked me how I knew so early — it’s because I have a knack for knowing a winning underdog when I see one.
Nikki Haley is a winning underdog.
Allow me to explain.
She’s culturally representative of America
Haley is the daughter of Indian Immigrants who moved to South Carolina. She was born and raised in the American South, but not as a Christian. During her formative years, Haley learned how to think without all of the extreme evangelical protestant constructs that America is notorious for, and with keen awareness of the rest of the world.
However, Haley later married a Christian member of the military and converted, so she is familiar with that important aspect of American culture.
Haley attended good schools, but not elite schools, such as Harvard or Standford. Her educational experience is far more in line with a “typical American” than say… every other politician holding a high office. For Americans who are sick and tired of Ivy League leaders, Haley is a breath of fresh campus air.
She’s not rich
Haley is worth around $8 million, but that is a rather recent development and a result of her serving in the Trump administration. Most of her life was spent like many other Americans — having to make major life decisions based on what we can afford.
In comparison to the wealth of most of the other candidates running for President, Haley looks like she’s blue-collar.
For Americans looking for someone who is not entirely disconnected from the financial realities of America, Haley will seem economically empathic.
Her Husband is inspiring
Michael Haley, an orphan from Ohio, has a degree in Business from Clemson University (where he and Nikki met). Despite that, Michael signed up for military service and traveled to Afghanistan to teach Afghan farmers how to grow cash crops, instead of relying upon opium for income. He is the first spouse of a South Carolina governor (Nikki Haley) to have served in an active war zone.
Today, Michael is an investor and serves on several boards and advisory committees.
Her views on foreign policy are spot-on
Nikki Haley knows that the war in Ukraine is not about Russia — it is about China. She has been clear that America and NATO need to continue to support Ukraine, and that we need to send a clear message to all rivals of America that invading free countries will result in disastrous failure.
Haley’s spoken views on major foreign policies are so matter-of-fact, that we almost forget that we are listening to a politician. Instead, it seems like we are hearing an expert on policy.
Imagine that, a President who is actually an expert on matters of policy making.
Economically speaking, Haley is an expert in the foreign policy levers that affect American wallets. If she is President, expect solid trade deals and the removal of special interest subsidies. She probably is the most sober mind available when it comes to tackling long-term inflation.
She is a woman and Dems deserve punitive action
America is ready for its first female president, and the GOP is primed to snatch that victory from the jaws of the party who believed it to be their birthright.
The Democrats brought America their first black president, but since then, they have been misbehaving.
First, they tried to shove Hillary Clinton down our throats. Next, they sided with an obscure form of extremism.
In truth, the vast vast majority of Americans are absolutely over the political pandering to an extreme minority of people with gender problems and self-esteem issues. The Democrats are not doing nearly enough to tamper down the so-called “woke” wing of the liberal political movement, and instead allow actual policies to be implemented that push an absurd agenda that defies logic and science. Ironic, since the Dems claim to be the party of science, yet are quick to rebuke basic principles of biology.
It’s also ridiculous since there are major problems that require urgent attention, and which are being neglected due to social mollycoddling.
If the Republican party delivers America its first female president AND its first Indian-American president, it will be such a sharp rebuke to the Dems that they may finally abandon the bizarre and hegemonic gender-twisting-faux-feminism-militant-tolerism elitism.
The best step forward for Women in America, and around the world, is a female American president who is actually a good president.
Nikki Haley has all the fixings to be exactly that.
Abortion
Haley is a Republican, so she’s no friend to people who want zero restrictions on abortion. However, Haley is a woman.
Nikki Haley has been clear that she believes in clearing the way for medical intervention in cases of rape, incest, and emergencies. She also has been clear that she would not interfere with individual state laws. If state governments codify the right to choose into their laws, President Haley will not be a problem for them.
Regarding the Supreme Court, expect future appointees to be more like Justice Roberts (who did not vote to overturn Roe v. Wade) than the ideological conservatives that Trump put on the bench.
Women should have the right to medical treatment and a confidential relationship with their doctor, period. Haley’s approach may not be fast enough for a lot of people, but it will be a step back in the right direction overall.
While many in the GOP are busy beating the bible against female liberties, Haley will likely defer to the rule of law to sort these things out. Remember, she did not grow up a Christian.
She rejected Trump
Yes, Haley was part of the Trump administration, but a distant part of it. She was critical of him before he was elected, and then she declined an offer to be Secretary of State once he was.
Haley accepted to be Ambassador to the U.N., but that put her on an airplane more than it did in the company of Donald Trump. Haley resigned in 2018, and she’s been outspoken against his attempts to overthrow the election.
Her platform is grounded in reality
Unlike many of her GOP competitors, Haley’s policy plans are rooted in real-world issues, and not conspiracy theories and boogeymen. Haley is not at war with “woke,” though she will not tolerate adding 53 genders to American military documents. She entirely rejects the notion that the 2020 election was stolen, yet she recognizes that many voters feel disenfranchised (on both sides).
Nikki Haley has declared that expelling the children of illegal immigrants is wrong, but she recognizes that the entire system needs a major overhaul. She supports immigration reform that deals with the foundational flaws in policy and operations, such as making it way too easy to enter the U.S. in the first place.
Haley does not want to build a giant fantasy wall along the American/Mexican border, but she has called out the pandering to Mexico when it comes to drug cartels, and she is prepared to use military and police forces to once and for all to end the madness plaguing American border states.
Bottom line
I left the USA in 2018 during the Trump administration, to live in France. I’m voting for Haley in the GOP primaries because she is a candidate who brings some sanity and pragmatism back to the Republicans. More importantly though, if she does manage to take the top spot and go head-to-head with Joe Biden in the general election (or VP Harris), I will absolutely vote for Nikki Haley.
Haley is a human, so she is not perfect, but she will be a far better leader than the current President.
Most importantly, she is perhaps more of an expert in foreign policy than he is (Biden’s self-described major strength) and her ability to think and articulate will help bridge a lot of gaps in mutual respect and understanding.
If Haley does not win the GOP nomination, then that party is missing a grand opportunity to strike a major blow at their political rivals and set the tone for international leadership in the 21st century.
If the GOP does not nominate her, then they will lose the general election.
I’m an independent and would vote for Nikki Haley.
The place she does need to reflect reality on is that the United States is an oxymoron. It is the divided states and is becoming more so.
This where Vivek is headed. Reducing the federal government means your pushing power back to the states. The federal government is dysfunctional because everything is about how the biggest pot of money in the world is going to be spent.
She should seriously have a position on that issue as it is the elephant in the room. Vivek has come the closest to addressing that issue straight on.
For me, the most important action that will keep the country united is to repeal the 16th amendment. That will move all power back to the states.
