When I Taught a Finance
The struggle of explaining why Finance is important to people studying in one of the world capitals of Finance.
I think we can all agree that luxury watches are wonderful. Of all the luxury items out there, watches are probably the most widely respected and least controversial. No whales or slaughtered otters or blood diamonds set in a disgustingly overpriced ring of highly refined cartel-controlled platinum. Yes, watches are a simple and old concept that helps us manage our most precious resource – time. Even the most hardcore eco-warriors and fiscal conservatives can appreciate old-school luxury watches, which use very little energy, last forever, and display a sense of refinement and class that no other accessory can provide.
Men wear watches, women wear watches, and everyone else wears watches. That’s always been okay, and will always be okay.
Watches don’t suggest that you do believe in something, or that you don’t. A watch is neutral, much like the country where most of the world’s finest are produced – Switzerland. It’s no wonder then that a country that has made history by avoiding international conflict is the same that produces such a widely celebrated and socially tranquil object. One would expect that such an industry would be laden with ripe talent and the most refined and classy students.
And if that’s what you expected… expect again.
